Otterbein Lebanon Celebrated Resident Dog’s Invitation to the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in NYC

Otterbein SeniorLife Lebanon celebrated one of its most beloved residents — not a person, but a dog. Cole, an Irish Red & White Setter, earned an invitation to compete at the 150th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in 2026, one of the most prestigious events in conformation dog showing.

All About Cole

Cole sitting with his ribbonCole’s impressive resume includes elite titles such as Multiple Best in Show (MBISS), National Best in Show (NBISS), and Grand Champion (GCH), earned through his athleticism, breed type, and show-ring presence. He is also a certified Canine Good Citizen (CGC), reflecting his excellent temperament and training.

Ranked as the #1 Irish Red & White Setter in the All-Breed standings — based on the number of dogs he has defeated across breeds in group competitions — Cole ended the year tied for second place nationally within his breed.

Among his many honors, Cole received Best of Opposite Sex at the historic Morris & Essex Dog Show in New Jersey, an event held only once every five years. In 2025, he earned an Award of Merit at the AKC/Royal Canin National Championship during Best of Breed judging, further cementing his status among the nation’s top dogs.

Bringing Joy to Others

Beyond the show ring, Cole is registered as a therapy dog with the Alliance of Therapy Dogs and is a cherished visitor at Otterbein SeniorLife and Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where his calm demeanor and friendly nature bring comfort and joy.

“Cole lights up our community,” said Lori Ward, Executive Director at Otterbein SeniorLife Lebanon. “His accomplishments in the show ring bring tremendous pride to our residents and staff. We love cheering him on as he represents not only his breed and his owner, Mary, but our entire community here in Lebanon.”

The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, held annually in New York City, is one of the oldest and most respected dog shows in the world. The competition begins with breed judging, advances through group rounds, and culminates in the coveted Best in Show title.

Cole’s journey from the halls of Otterbein SeniorLife Lebanon to the Westminster stage is a heartwarming story of dedication, training, and the profound impact companion animals have on senior living communities.
