  2. A pre-determined entrance fee that is fully refundable
  3. A Refundable Life Use Fee (RLUF) with a lower monthly rental fee and a declining refund balance

The monthly rental fee includes virtually all of the independent living services you would ordinarily fund — rent, interior and exterior maintenance (including all appliances), security, some transportation, and access to numerous activities and services. Some communities include meal plans, while others offer meals at reasonable prices.

Does the monthly fee increase significantly each year?

Otterbein is a non-profit organization, but unfortunately, it is still subject to typical inflationary cost increases. Annual rental fee increases typically range from zero to three percent, but feel free to ask your Otterbein contact for the recent fee increase history in your community of choice.

Do I have to switch doctors if I move to Otterbein?

Most residents prefer to continue with their current doctors, with whom they have established trusting relationships. However, for added convenience, many Otterbein SeniorLife Communities offer onsite medical directors and clinic services, making it easier to access healthcare. Additionally, we have established connections with hospitals and doctors in the local community.

Pets are allowed in most of our independent living homes and villas, typically including cats, dogs, birds, and fish, as long as the resident ensures they are safe and on leashes in common areas. Pets are allowed in some independent living apartments, but policies vary by community.
