Get to Know Otterbein Lebanon Resident Faye W.

Can you share a brief background about your life before moving to Otterbein?

I lived in Lexington, Kentucky, for 25 years, where I retired and spent lots of time in the yard. When my husband passed away, it was time to be closer to my son. He found Otterbein Lebanon and encouraged me to move here. We toured the community with Anna. I have two sons; one son lives in Charleston, SC, and the other lives in Lebanon, OH, across from Otterbein.

When I was a child, I lived in Middletown. I had two nieces that were older than me. Their mom died suddenly when they were all young. Their dad could not take care of those two girls, so he sent them to the orphanage in Marble Hall at Otterbein to live.

When searching for a community, how did you decide on Otterbein? What set it apart from other communities?

My family lives close by, and Otterbein Lebanon feels safe.

Please share about what area of the community you moved to, and what types of services you receive.

I love living in a duplex in a court and enjoy my neighbors. I also love my yard with all the flowers. The maintenance team has been amazing since living at Otterbein. Unfortunately, the second day after I moved in, I was heading into the garage and accidentally hit the gas instead of the brakes and ran into the garage door and bricks. The maintenance team replaced my windows, washer, and dryer and fixed my garage. I love Hunter in maintenance; he is wonderful and makes my life easier.

Can you continue doing things you enjoyed before moving to Otterbein?

Yes, I’m close to the main building, so I can walk anywhere I need to go. I can still do yard work at 83 and enjoy quilting, painting, going for walks, and doing housework.

Have you tried new activities for the first time since moving to Otterbein? What bold adventures have you enjoyed so far?

I enjoy painting and ceramics. I’ve found that I walk a lot more, so much sometimes that my feet hurt. As far as bold adventures, I went on a boat ride yesterday!

What are some of the reasons why you’d recommend Otterbein to others?

I recommend Otterbein to others for safety and beauty. The grass is green, the flowers are nice, and so are the people. I’ve never seen someone with a sour disposition since being here. The people are wonderful, and they smile and speak to you.

The campus is beautiful here. I’m very well-satisfied! Typically, I’m scared to stay by myself at night, but I feel so comfortable and safe at Otterbein that I sleep well.

Was it easy to make friends at Otterbein?

Yes! Very!!! People are friendly and do whatever they can to help. Resident Marilyn P. is the representative for Red Bud Court, and she helped acclimate me to the community and also looks after the whole court to make sure everyone is adjusting and making friends.
