Thirteen adventurous spirits left Granville for Lebanon, Ohio, on Sept. 29, 2022. This marked our first opportunity to participate in the annual Otterbein Olympics held each year at the corporate headquarters in Lebanon.

Our athletes participated in six different events: Putt-Putt, Corn Hole, Shuffleboard, Wii Computer Bowling, Bocce, and Scrabble. Although our contingent was small compared to some other communities that sent 40-50 athletes, Otterbein Granville earned six medals — three silver and three bronze.

The Otterbein Granville Team

The team for Otterbein Granville was comprised of Agnes A., Anne and Patrick A., Linda B., Lloyd F., Dorothy G., Betty H., Judy K., Larry M., Becky and Dave S., and Kathy and Phil S.

After opening ceremonies, the competition began at noon and continued until about 3:30. Chefs and culinary staff from all communities, including our own Ian Queen, Amber Roberts, and Stephanie Patterson, prepared and served delicious food items for all the athletes’ enjoyment.

Our marketing team of Derik Kroeze, Courtney Laney, and Melissa Moore were organizers at the various event venues; they deserve much praise for keeping under control an overly raucous group at the corn hole venue.

The Otterbein medal winners were:

Scrabble—> Anne A.
Shuffleboard—> Agnes A. and Larry M.

It was a fun and interesting day, and we met many interesting residents from our sister communities. We invite others to join us for the next Otterbein Olympics in 2023.
