Tower Tales is a biannual publication featuring the writings of Otterbein Granville residents. The inaugural issue dates back to 2009.

History of Tower Tales Literacy Magazine

Upon a review of our archives, it was observed that on May 14, 2009, the Kendal at Granville Residents Association (KAGRA) met in a council meeting. The eight residents in attendance discussed the possibility of publishing a literacy magazine.

The idea was received favorably, and the upcoming budget included a line item for $240 dollars for Tower Tales. Residents were encouraged to submit poems, essays, tales, reminiscences, and editorials they had written. An editorial board was formed to curate the submissions into a magazine. The inaugural issue was published in fall 2009.

Publication Changes Over the Years

Published twice a year since 2009, Tower Tales was originally printed in-house. The first professionally printed issue was distributed in winter 2011, and the glossy covers began to include beautiful color pictures.

The summer 2015 issue was very special as it featured the tenth anniversary of the founding of Kendal at Granville. The cover photograph, taken at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 16, 2005, includes founders Dave and Dee Richards along with Jane and Jack Heller.

The 24-page issue contains writings by Jack Heller on the origins of Kendal at Granville and many color photographs of early residents. The inclusion of color photographs has continued in subsequent issues, and the budget has grown to $1,250.

The editorial board is now collecting resident submissions for the next upcoming Tower Tales issue. We look forward to many more delightful and insightful articles by our residents.
