In Honor and Memory of the Dilgards
History of The Dilgard Open
The Otterbein Dilgard Open is an annual charity Golf Tournament that was created in 1993 by Rev. Howard Washburn to honor former CEO, Dr. Charles K. Dilgard. This event was created to support Otterbein Hospice and elder care services in memory of Sarah Dilgard. Today, the Dilgard Open continues to bring together golfers, sponsors, and community members to support compassionate care for older adults across Ohio.

Otterbein Hospice provides compassionate, expert care that brings comfort, dignity, and peace to individuals and families navigating the final chapter of life. Their dedicated team supports physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, ensuring each journey is met with respect, empathy, and personalized care. In 2025, Otterbein Hospice served more than 500 patients and supported over 1,000 family members across 26 counties in Ohio, ensuring no one faces end-of-life care alone.
Otterbein Hospice offers guidance in homes, assisted living, and skilled nursing settings. Support from the Dilgard Open helps fund specialized therapies like massage, music, and animal-assisted visits, creating meaningful moments for patients and loved ones. Contributions also sustain grief support programs including Hospice Every Moment Matters, offering resources and support for individuals of all ages coping with loss.
Every dollar raised helps Otterbein Hospice continue its mission of providing comfort, dignity, and hope when it is needed most. Otterbein Hospice ensures that patients and families feel supported, cared for, and never alone.
